As the last of summer begins to fade and the nights get cooler, it becomes a bit easier to dream big. When we think of Autumn it is the colors, the winds changing, the spices unlocked from the closet and fields of flowers. The awaited harvest the year has hopefully brought in. In our modern world most of us have lost the victory of autumn, the insurance that one has worked hard enough to make it through winter. Sunflowers are a resource, as old as time, depending on your zone you can get two or three rotations. The seeds feed both birds and bodies alike, known to help fight parasites that could make it to your gut and an extremely good source of magnesium when eaten appropriately. #sunflower #sunflowerseeds #harvest #fieldsofgold #victory

The toad, I think, deserves a highlight this time of year, when the nights get dewy and if you’re lucky, to hear them chirping sweet nothings. These incredible little goo balls are natures pest control always hungry, always on duty. The have a healthy appetite for slugs and snails and grubs, the mighty cockroach! Frogs and toads are a good sign towards a healthy ecosystem system and can eat thousands of insects a season. Toads have a very thin and sensitive skin, it would benefit both you and your garden, to avoid harsh chemicals. You can encourage more beneficial species by providing plant solutions and a safe haven, appropriate, to the climate around you.  Historically having many toads was good fortune and to kill a toad was bad luck, in many cultures its usefulness has not gone forgotten. Poppy Season 😍 (Papaver Rhoeas) or “Flanders Poppy” Rhoeas - of course is from the Greek word “Rhoia” now “Rodi” which’s means Pomegranate ! But this very simple and gorgeous poppy is more importantly known as the the “symbol of remembrance” for Military veterans. This little tiny bright beauty, is what grew effortlessly across the battlefields of Europe during the World Wars. This limestone loving, adaptive, low maintenance, self seeding, beauty - grows on rocks. Little poppies bloomed all over the blood stained valleys. This little poppy shined, and bonded nations with its stoic beauty. Spring is overall a season of remembrance. What’s worth fighting for, what needs to be cleaned up, and what managed to survive winter. Kenilworth Ivy or Cymbalaria muralis is a spring favorite of mine. I noticed across the years. This little beauty commonly grows on stone walls 100+ years old, remarkably, all over the world. Which told me little Kenilworth was a favorite centuries ago. This little heirloom is a perfect low maintenance choice for Stoney + shady outcrops, corners or wall edges.
